Commuting is part of my daily life. IT Park Transport Terminal as the jump-off point, traveling from the metro to my second home in the province, Consolacion, requires an hour-long bus ride for cheaper and comfortable experience. For many people, commuting becomes a necessity. Whether you are going to the office for work, to the mall to buy essentials and do errands, or to meet up with friends, hopping on a bus, jeepney or other public vehicle is a practical and budget-friendly alternative to get to your destination.
Now that many public buses and jeepneys are back on the road, it is much easier to get to various destinations in the city. Experiences in commuting may vary every day but rush hour can be quite stressful with the long lines and heavy traffic.
Shake off the stress and improve your daily transit with these five tips:
Pack the essentials
It pays to be prepared. Make sure you have a spacious bag to fit all your essentials including a foldable umbrella for bad weather, a hand towel or handkerchief to keep your skin dry, and small bills and coins for your fare. Also, do not forget that a face mask and face shield are still required in public vehicles and establishments.
Travel with a full stomach
Long commutes can be exhausting, and it can take a toll on one’s health. Before you hop on a bus or jeepney, boost your energy with a light meal or grab a snack to munch on during your trip. It is also very important to bring a water bottle with you and hydrate at all times.
Be productive while in traffic
Commuting can take up a lot of time especially if you get caught in traffic. Make the most of the trip by having some me-time. Listen to your favorite playlist or podcast, read a book, watch a movie, practice breathing exercises or simply take in the scenery outside.
Spread kindness and good vibes
A small act of kindness can make a huge difference in someone’s day. Help a stranger carry their bags or board the vehicle, strike a conversation with the person beside you, and do not forget to thank the driver on your way out. It does not cost anything to make someone smile.
Be strategic
It helps to know the ins and outs of your daily commute for more hassle-free trips in the future. Find the most efficient route to your destination, know the different traffic points and times, and find a go-to spot to sit on the ride. Do not forget to check the bus schedule and the designated stop for faster and easier boarding.
