IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME!!!!! Cue the Christmas music!
In its simplest sense, Christmas Day is all about family. Christmas means going home to your hometown and reconnecting with loved ones — eating, drinking, merry-making and celebrating love. As they say, the best gift that one could wish for underneath the Christmas tree, is the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.
Well, planning for my last holiday this year, I thought that it is going to be a strange one. It’s for sure. I’m normally surrounded by family either in Dipolog or Cebu but this year (for the first time in my life) I’m staying at an unfamiliar place where Christmas is not even celebrated. Or so I thought.
Holiday Staycation in Kurumba
Christmas may not be an official holiday here in the Maldives but celebrating it is nonetheless unmuted. While locals don’t believe in this special season, private resorts are the exemption. They even have a day or two of preparation just for guests around the world who celebrate the festivities. So yeah, my first ever resort visit was scheduled on the week of Christmas Day and it happened to be the first private island resort in the Maldives. Say hello to Kurumba Maldives!
I even had a chance to visit Kurumba’s Royal Accommodation: 2BR Residence. Set on the beachfront, the only two bedrooms, two private jacuzzis luxury villa on the island. Thoughtful touches: two flatscreen TVs, two standing outdoor and indoor showers, one lush central dining and lounge with a large veranda that flows onto the beach and more. Bonus: Private butler at your service (per request).
As a newly-expatriated Filipino Worker abroad, I have the option to mingle with other expats or just bask in the beauty of this little slice of paradise where white sand beach is more delightful than white Christmas and coconut trees under the sun can be as merry and bright like the Christmas trees and lights. I maybe alone, but definitely not lonely.
